This follows feedback from a ratepayer in Taman Bersatu and another in Taman Likas Jaya who claimed that the drains and grass in their backyards had not been attended to in some time. The ratepayer from the former housing area spoke out about the hazards posed by the unkempt common land outside her fence, after catching sight of a snake slithering among the undergrowth.
A Council spokesman said a preliminary inspection was made of Taman Bersatu Phase 2, shortly thereafter.“Our staff noted that water vegetation was thriving inside the backyard drain, off Lorong Linsuk,” he said. The greenery on the shoulders was also found to be overgrown, according to him. “This was done on compassionate grounds as neither these structures nor the government land on either side are under our jurisdiction.”“We called on the firm to increase their maintenance endeavours involving the frontyard drains and the reserve land near these structures.”
Meanwhile, the backyard drains at residential properties within City Hall’s rating area – including those in Taman Likas Jaya – are cleared biannually. “Our Drain-Cleaning Unit paid particular attention to removing any sediment at the base of the drain behind the rate-payer’s home.”
