Two people die in NSW as authorities warn of 'dangerous and difficult' fire conditions across the stateNSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has confirmed two men, believed to be a father and his son, have died in the town of Cobargo. The premier said authorities hold “grave concerns” about the welfare of a third person missing west of Narooma.

Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said more than 100 fires are burning across NSW, with 60 uncontained and eight at an emergency level. He said the community should “brace itself” for the likelihood of widespread property loss and added the fire had “spread faster and further” than modelling predicted. Authorities have urged residents to refrain from “sightseeing” and make plans to bunker down for the night.
