As nine towers in Melbourne remain in hard lockdown, residents of their public housing flats report vastly different experiences of being plunged into sudden isolation.

As nine towers in Melbourne went into hard lockdown at the weekend, residents of the public housing flats reported vastly different experiences of being plunged into sudden isolation. The residents come from a range of cultural backgrounds

Yin Yongsheng, from the Federation of Chinese Association , an umbrella organisation based in the city, estimated there were about 200 Chinese migrants in the locked-down towers and the majority were over the age of 60. "My daughters take very good care of me but I told them, 'Don't worry, I will strive to take good care of myself.'"One Samoan woman, who asked to be known as Lucy because she is a domestic violence survivor, lives with her seven children and their dog in one of the locked-down towers.

"It's not enough for eight people in the house — I will give it to my kids and I'll be left here starving myself. "I am very worried about it when I hear things about our building. I hope I can get tested soon and be aware of my own test result."The couple would normally expect a visit from their daughter and grandchild on Sundays, but the lockdown prevented that on the weekend.

But it was not until after 3:00am that the distressed mother was called to collect them from downstairs.

I lived near this joint years ago, I remember a boy yelling at me that I ate bacon in the parklands next door 😂

How could you welcome being put in a makeshift prison?

Well the food you’ve been getting isn’t hell hell, try the pork you may really like it, I find that the chops are the nicest.

Are they sending them security guards to root?

Welcome lockdown? Which moron would welcome unnecessary 'pain in the a** intrusion & restriction in one's life? Get real! These poor people were coerced to accept a stupid lockdown by wasting enormous police resource. Last time I checked, this is Australia, NOT China or N Korea.

Thank you for your change... more measured & responsible journalism...unlike most others

That's not what they are saying... they are angry, they are feeling targeted, they don't eat Tuna, chic-peas and cottage pies and they are locked in for 14 days not 5.

Absolute rubbish! I've a friend, with his wife & small children, among the residents. They've been posting messages/video from residents, who arent welcoming it. He hasn't been able to get medication for 2days or basic food for his kids. melbournelockdown MelbourneCovidPrisons

What a lot of crap who has no food in there fridge or cupboard for that 1night or morning breakfast, if they’ve got up to 11 people in the unit of course they would have some food for a day or so till it’s sorted. COVID19Vic get on board or get on a plane bak from where ya came

I, for one, welcome our new Covid-nazi overlords. FFS DanAndrews Fascist StockholmSyndrome

What?

‘Welcome lockdown’

Sure they do, lololol.

ABC is targeting Chinese with only Chinese community being exposed, as if all the residents are Chinese! Shame!

That's clear by the signs saying jail and help me. Had it been a liberal premier I doubt the headline would be the same.

'Melbourne public housing residents welcome lockdown' In case you missed that headline: 'Melbourne public housing residents welcome lockdown' 'Melbourne public housing residents welcome lockdown' 'Melbourne public housing residents welcome lockdown' Haahahahahahhaha DefundTheABC

Misleading headline abc

So you keep telling us. Please Sir, can we also be subject to house arrest?

There’s more than just food concerns! False imprisonment is just one!

they are getting twice the pay they usually get right now. However the Victorian government SHOULD be helping them out with delivery costs for groceries given they're being directly targeted.

'Welcome lockdown' is a bit of a stretch.

Yeah the Instagram stories of them swearing and shoving and BITING cops really tells me they welcome the lockdown.

Fear the Lord and repent of your sins for judgement is coming and heaven or hell. 2 Cor 5:10: For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he has done, whether it be good or bad. “Jesus Saves”

Just give those degenerates a tin of tuna, some rice and water, they're use to eating animals back in their third world countries.

This virus is causing hardship. The lock down, though harsh, is meant to save lives........show the value of support structures. When will we learn? Its a disgrace, and should be taken to court for improper use of power SBS should stop shit stirring. You know the virus needs to be controlled before we end up with numbers equal to the UK or US. Yet you continue to stir the pot. Dan Andrews is doing an excellent job by the way!

This is what happens when you don’t have an honourable 4th estate. Coronavirus is a measure of people intelligence and social responsibility . Most of the world has defeated it by wearing masks and listening to scientists. The USA will soon have 100,000 new cases per day because Trump is without question the dumbest President on the planet. How about being objective & mention the severity of the 'New cases', the sex of the individuals, the false positives & how many ICU & Hospitalizations there is. But no, too difficult for you Emotionalists Presstitute hacks

$117k raised after Melbourne apartment blocks sent into immediate lockdownNine public housing towers across two Melbourne suburbs have been placed under immediate lockdown, amid fears of a coronavirus outbreak. 9News Whole thing is ridiculous. It is absolutely POINTLESS trying to lock down a rapidly increasing number of individual suburbs, each having large numbers of routes of ingress and egress. There is NO VACCINE and 99.99% NON-IMMUNITY, so we can NOT suppress this virus indefinitely.
