Budget puts Australia 'a trillion dollars in debt with no sense of what the future looks like': ChalmersThe federal budget will put Australia in almost a trillion dollars of debt but still won't give people a sense of what the future will look like, according to Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers. Mr Chalmers said Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese’s budget address to parliament tonight will outline a vision for the economy that was missing in the Coalition’s federal budget.

“We’ve been saying all week now that there were some obvious gaps in what the government proposed: $100 million in new spending, a trillion dollars of debt, nothing for social housing, almost nothing for Australian women," Mr Chalmers told Sky News. "One of the things I think was really conspicuous about this budget week is the government managed to rack up more than a trillion dollars in debt and still didn’t really give the Australian people a sense of what the future looks like.
