Today's under-30s are set to be the first generation that is financially worse off than their parents, new figures from the Economic and Social Research Institute show.

A new poll on Claire Byrne on Monday night revealed that 75% and 74% of responders don't believe either Fine Gael or Fianna Fail can fix the housing crisis. Denise Charlton, CEO of the Community Foundation for Ireland, said: “These findings coupled with those which will be published with the full report on Friday provide important information for policymakers as the country begins to emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic. They provide evidence on which decisions can be made to ensure that we plan for a recovery which will be both equitable and fair.”

A kilo of Sirloin steak, while not a daily essential, cost on average €12.46 in 2003. By January 2009, this increased to just under €16. Today, supermarkets are charging upwards of €17.
