25,000 refugees from Ukraine have arrived in Ireland and Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said the state will be “stretched” to find housing for them all.

The cabinet will meet tomorrow to discuss proposals that would see vacant social housing used as accommodation for Ukrainians.

“It sounds like a really good plan,” Liam O' Dwyer, Interim Secretary General of the Irish Red Cross, told“It’s good to see that type of creative thinking coming into play because this is a real challenge for everybody. The Irish Red Cross has been at the forefront of arranging housing for arrivals and has been working closely with the Government on the issue.- citing reasons as varied as not being able to afford higher utility bills or having realised their home is too remote.

Vacant social homes set to be refurbished as Taoiseach reiterates 'no cap' on Ukrainian refugeesIt is being estimated that by the end of May there will be between 29,000 and 33,000 people seeking accommodation Nothing to do with Ukrainians fleeing war, but such a slap in the face to the homeless, and many many people struggling to pay extortionate rents per month. In addition to the tens of thousands of people already who are already seeking accommodation. Sounds like another way the government has found to funnel tax payer money into big corporations… As if there was no housing emergency before the Ukraine war....🙃

Vacant social homes to be used to house refugeesVacant social homes are to be brought in to use as part of a range of measures to find more places to accommodate Ukrainian refugees. What about accommodating homeless Irish people? Amazing how the money can be found all of a sudden Remember when they wouldn't allow homeless Irish to sleep in tents If I was suffering homelessness I’d be really sad about how little my life is worth to the Irish state. Such gusto to help home thousands of Ukrainians, while I go from shop door to hostel to some other form of emergency nightly accommodation.
