Police were called to a property in West Melton in South Yorkshire on Friday night, where they found a woman who had been fatally bitten and a man with multiple severe injuries - one potentially life-altering.

A woman has died after being bitten by a dog, while a man who phoned emergency services during the attack has been left with severe injuries.

Police were called to a property in Masefield Road, West Melton, in South Yorkshire at around 10.15pm on Friday. They attended with Yorkshire Ambulance Service and found a woman, 43, with a fatal bite wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The 42-year-old man who dialled 999 has suffered a potentially life-altering injury to one hand, as well injuries to his other hand, stomach and face. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

The dog, along with another at the property, were secured by officers. Neither canine is of a banned breed.
