But what have Mayor Kennedy Stewart and his left-leaning allies on council done about affordable housing? In particular, we’re speaking about Couns. Adriane Carr, Pete Fry, and Michael Wiebe, all Green Party members, along with Christine Boyle, and the ABC Party’s Rebecca Bligh, Sarah Kirby-Yung and Lisa Dominato, led by Ken Sim.
That’s a great deal for the developer, but a naïve, financially illiterate deal for the city, the community and Vancouver residents. Existing municipal policies at city hall under this NDP mayor have not produced nearly enough affordable housing in Vancouver, the key issue for voters in this fall’s election. Housing affordability is the main issue that B.C. premier-in-waiting David Eby is concerned about.Article contentLet us count the ways:
2. The mayor and certain council members think they are at the United Nations, instead of overseeing the more mundane but essential municipal responsibilities of land use, parks, community centres, housing, water, and public safety.
Don’t confuse affordable housing with housing affordability. Both are issues
Because even the NDP are now just run of the mill neoliberals. Sure they are a bit friendlier to our public institutions and labour but they don't support any expansion of public housing or work to address exploitive capitalism.
Don't forget they destroyed the healthcare system as well. bcndp adriandix
... what about past city NPA councils/mayors and what housing did they provide?
Go woke get broke. Vancouver could make a killing in tax revenue if they just went after homeowners using their homes as BnB and Hotels. Simple browsing of craigslist would reveal the enormity of the situation. Ex. below same person running multiple homes like a hotel.
Unwise and unsubstantiated decisions on budget allocation…we need a change in government otherwise we will step into a housing chaos under bcndp and wrong direction…
Yeah. The bc liberals destroyed any hope of fixing it any time soon.
BC NDP is a bloody liar!
100,000 extra people arrived and didn’t bring a home with them (or their doctors)
RanRinBC Can’t mandate 50% affordable housing. Nothing would be built.
EVERY phucking BC politician hasn’t even tried! One thing that PO💩Horgan could IMMEDIATELY do but can’t B bothered 2 do is raise the cut off rate for their housing rebate 4 a 1 bdrm apart from their decades OLD $803 to actually reflect the $1300/mo they actually rent for!
Supply/demand of housing isn’t something the government can help with (though they could certainly make the situation appear better in the short run while making it worse in the long run).
All talk and no action
It's not something you can snap your fingers and make appear. Housing and homelessness are not problems that can be solved in an election cycle.
