When it comes to buying real estate in Canada where a basic house can cost you well over $1M in some markets, finding something cheap often feels like it’s out of the question. But for anyone who’s looking to spend the smallest amount possible on a property, they should turn their attention to Maple Creek, Saskatchewan.
It’s a small town in the southwest of the prairie province with a population of 2,176 and has just over 1,000 homes — one of which just so happens to be the cheapest house for sale in Canada. Located at 210 Maple Street, the bungalow property recently hit the market with an asking price of just $12,000.
Although home prices in Maple Creek are certainly less expensive than in the average Canadian market, with the majority of houses priced under $300,000, the Maple Street property is still exceptionally low. As the listing states, the property is “priced to sell.” Unfortunately there’s one big drawback: the house can’t actually be lived in. The listing specifies that it “would need to be demolished,” and after a quick browse through the photos, it’s not too hard to see why. The exterior of the 1895-built house has certainly seen better days, but it’s the interior that really stands out. Large parts of the flooring are torn up, and the ground is covered in debris, pieces of wood, and parts of the walls that appear to have fallen down.
