Eviction notices have doubled in the last year, according to new figures from the Residential Tenancies Board.
The figures show that over 1,000 landlords issued eviction notices between April and June - more than twice the number issued this time last year.Sinn Féin's Eoin Ó Broin says we need an emergency response to the rising levels of homelessness. "The real problem is since these figures have been released, since the latest homeless figures show record levels of adults and children in emergency accommodation [Government Housing Minister] Darragh O'Brien is nowhere to be seen.""We need a ban on evictions, and we need other measures to ensure that those people at risk of homelessness are able to access secure, social and affordable homes.
"I think local authorities need to get better at collecting rent, they need to be better at reporting rent."

EOBroin Does he not understand that his call for the banning of evictions is having the opposite effect and driving landlords out of the market.I manage 30+ properties for a property company and they are about to issue notice to quit to all of their tenants because of this. Its crazy

At least allow us to make payments to retain our housing verses a full ban on evictions. I am trying to pay back after a hedge fund bought my place and refused to take rent money under the guise of the pandemic. Now new owners say they bought the debt and hit me with €21K bill.

EOBroin is the big problem not the length & resources given to the planning process & to the building apprenticeship model instead of bringing that process into a degree in construction with multi-trade modules from carpenty to plumbing, to block laying, welding+ SUSI grant?
