Los Angeles received $60 million in federal funding on Thursday, Feb. 2, to address homelessness as part of what officials described as a first-of-its-kind grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The money will be used for outreach and funding motels and other shelters along with permanent housing, according to LAHSA’s new CEO, Va Lecia Adams Kellum. It will also be used to support Mayor Karen Bass’ Inside Safe initiative, which aims to bring encampment residents indoors. Doug Guthrie, executive director of the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, said that the $60 million will be spent quickly and wisely. Guthrie said it will allow the city to provide more housing vouchers to people living in encampments, in addition to deep wraparound services and housing navigation.
So these motels will have to torn down in a couple of years, like the ones in San Francisco that the vagrants lived in during Covid. Great use of money ( Not !!!).

MayorOfLA Some homeless will take housing, most won’t. Take a survey of our 70,000 homeless and see where they came from. Most aren’t from here. Angelenos are sick and tired of living in third world squalor with do-nothing politicians.
Doesn’t HUD make funding contingent on the city providing shelter and services based on need/acuity through its coordinated entry system? What the MayorOfLA is doing with inside safe is non compliant.
