Cyclone Gabrielle will continue to wreak destruction across North Island on Tuesday.New Zealand has been placed in a national state of emergency due to widespread damage from Cyclone Gabrielle.
"This is an unprecedented weather event that is having major impacts across much of the North Island," Mr McAnulty said. By 8am, it had moved east to the Bay of Plenty, north of Tauranga, but its massive size is whipping up destructive winds all across North Island. MetService executive Lisa Murray said some areas of the Coromandel, the region closest to the storm's eye, received 300 millimetres of rain during the storm to date.Asked what area gives her the most concern, Ms Murray replied "There are so many areas".On the East Coast, the Gisborne and Hawke's Bay regions have been battered by similar totals, with rivers breaking their banks and forcing evacuations.
Hold in there friends we are praying for you 🇹🇷🇳🇿
They could deploy the militar…… Never mind
I’ve seen it flood in NZ after a night of drizzle. This would be intense.
It's called =the= North Island, not just North Island.
Terrible to see this level of destruction.
Ooof. The New Zealand disaster response system is fantastic, and you would want any of their personnel at your side at a pinch. But they really can’t catch a break, can they? (I wonder how all the mega-rich are doing in their underground bunkers…🤔)
Merciful
Hopefully it washes away the new and old prime ministers
stay safe NZ
