Liberal MP Bridget Archer looks set to cross the floor to support the Albanese government’s national housing fund.

split with colleagues to support the Albanese government’s national housing fund on Wednesday night, rejecting the Coalition’s opposition and warning too many vulnerable people have nowhere to live.

“There are undoubtedly holes in what the government has proposed ... but at its core it is a step forward to providing more Australians, more Tasmanians, mums and dads, women escaping domestic and family violence, older Australians and younger people, with a roof over their head.“I can’t stand here as an elected representative and ignore their needs. The answer to the housing crisis cannot be solved by one level of government on its own.

“I don’t know why anyone would stand in the way of increased investment in social and affordable housing for Australian people, including the most vulnerable people in our community,” he said. Mr Bandt said renters, Indigenous Australians and families struggling to stay in safe accommodation needed the bill to pass.“We will continue to work with the government over the coming weeks to make this better because people need it to be better,” he said.

Labor to be forced to change major housing policy after opposition from Coalition, GreensThe federal government will likely be forced to change its housing plan, with both the Opposition and Greens raising concerns about the $10 billion fund. I have to agree with the Greens 😱 $500m per year won’t even touch the sides. Also cut back on immigration. This is great news. This will send cost of living and inflation soaring whilst making tradies, politicians, investors and unions super rich. I'm all for $billions being spent on more social housing. What I don't understand is why our government is not spending the money for more housing for all Aussies, not just Aboriginal Aussies?
