Research by the ESRI found that the longer children are exposed to inadequate housing from birth to the age of nine, the more harm they experience.
A similar proportion of children lived in homes that parents could not afford to keep warm, while 19% lived in neighbourhoods that parents felt had higher levels of disorder, such as rubbish and vandalism. However, even after taking account of families' circumstances, children in lone-parent households were still more likely to live in private rented and social housing, and to experience heating deprivation and neighbourhood disorder.
Children who grew up in inadequately heated homes were also more likely to have worse health, as reported by their parents, and experience more accidents or injuries requiring medical treatment. The strong link between low income and poorer housing circumstances in the report highlights the importance of broader income and welfare supports, as well as specific housing supports, in alleviating disadvantage according to its authors.
It also notes that investments to improve the physical and social infrastructure in local communities are likely to pay dividends for the youngest members of society.
Genius. How much did it cost them to arrive at that conclusion? Could have told them that for nothing.😉
LeoVaradkar would wonder about the scientific basis of that survey!
How much did that study cost..imagine having to do a study to find out that children living in poor conditions and in communities that have high rates of crime and poor facilities have poor health etc..
We need to start building millions of council houses, especially now that our borders are fully open to the third world. That’ll cure it.
Jesus, that must have been hard to figure out. Those esri guys are really switched on
Surely we should covert state buildings to house them properly..
PaddyDiver4 I feel for all the kids being forced to kep living in defective concrete bock homes
Nothing can be done, Ireland is in so much debt,
But yet the clowns 🤡 in government, labour, greens ,SF all want open borders for all to come here with nowhere to go just remember when they come calling for votes to shut your doors to them ,they hate the Irish and all for people to come here in there millions ,unvetted
Is it a housing problem, or a bad parent problem?
Most rental conditions are like this
Then why were people marching at the weekend to stop deportations and for more immigrants? When quite clearly IrelandIsFull
But yet we can house the world hhhmm
Does more need to be done on educating people about contraception and what poverty is? Would it not make more sense to prevent children being born into poverty.
How much money did they waste on that. Please can people stop doing studies to find out the fecking obvious. That money could have been spent on improving a neighborhood.
Crime rates in the area and low level policing causes physical and mental health issues, imagine how people feel atm
And yet they continue to bring women and children in to this country ignoring the problems that exist
Maybe FG should focus more on these serious issues rather than having digs at other parties!! Been in government for over a decade and managed to turn a housing problem into a housing crisis!!
The building materials used in Ireland are the worst I've seen in a developed Country, the greed is real!
A ‘known known’ for quite some time
No shit, how much was wasted on that study?
Total bull. I grew up in a house in the 60/70's and we didn't have running water, no toilet inside or out. You could see through the wooden door without opening it. The windows used to have frost on the inside of the windows during the winter. 5 of us were reared in the house.
Meanwhile in Donegal, families are still trapped in dangerous and hazardous homes, despite the spin.
Peers doing a lot of heavy lifting there
What does the ESRI do when it's not stating the blindingly obvious. 'The ESRI finds housing conditions are closely linked to families socio economic circumstances'.
That's why no one with any intelligence pays FF and FG any attention with their sad stories about the Ukrainians. They've been neglecting Irish people for years and we're led to believe that their hearts are bleeding for Ukrainians 🤣🤣
Isn't there a book about that....yes, of course, Angela's Ashes!
Really needed a study to know that…unless anything changes,it’s a pointless study!
discovers water is wet
No shit.
Did that need a study to know.
