People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett has predicted there will be an"avalanche" of evictions this summer, unless the Government"very very quickly" intervenes and extends a ban.
Housing campaigner Peter McVerry said the Government should adopt the bill, despite its concerns that extending such a ban could fall foul of the Constitution for not being"temporary". This would mean the Bill would either be found to be lawful, in which case there wasn't a problem, or found to be unconstitutional - which would then pave the way for a referendum.Mr McVerry said the Government needs to accept that relying on the private rental sector to provide housing to low-income families was"dead", given that asking prices were"astronomical".

The government should ONLY be able to ban evictions on property they actually own. They better make sure that all these modular homes they are building are never sold on to anybody so that they will always own their housing stock and such a situation will never arise again.

And you actually expect more people to rent out excess property they own? Seriously This is outright fraud! (Btw - I own one very small house that I live in, I have nothing to rent out to anybody, not even a garage, but I can see right from wrong and this ban is nonsense.)

Evictions followed by deportations hopefully. Mass migration has sent housing demand and accomodation prices soaring. Not to mention our tourism industry will be dead in the water if the tourists can't book a room. Over burdened systems inevitably collapse. IrelandisFull
