abc.net.au/news/councils-and-housing-groups-call-for-400m-budget-boost/102015638More Australians than ever are living in cars, caravans, and tents in what one advocate calls a "truly national" housing crisis, that has seen rental vacancy rates fall to their lowest level ever in both regional and capital cities.
Just 0.8 per cent of rental properties were available to lease nationally in January, according to Domain, well below a "healthy" rate of around 3 per cent. Tens of thousands of Australians moved to the regions during the pandemic, while others moved out of share houses or their parent's homes, seeking more space to work from home.
Is ALP back in power? Oh yes they are. Thst explains the problem. And they've thrown $10bill, of our taxes, at housing to exacerbate the shortage of tradies materials and yo blow out in interest rates. Albonomics is the new 'thing'. Heaven help us all
Hang on a minute- councils are partially responsible for the 'crisis' . 3-12 months to get approvals; fees for this; fees for that; developers provide infrastructure and increase land value there more rate revenue. Where are state governments in this space? MIA as usual
VoteSustainable
Yes, pump more credit and money into economy that's facing 10% pa inflation, then ramp up immigration while your there, sounds like a good plan
Something you never hear mentioned is the kind of 'corruption' that means SOME members of particular 'communities' get favourable treatment from people with the power to allocate public or subsidised housing.
Just give that money to Ukraine
Housing crisis? Here, have 300k+ migrants
Maybe the government should do something about all the vacant properties out there.
If we defund the ABC to do this we could double the funding into housing each year !
Lol it’s schizophrenia 101.. when you are in a housing crisis bring in 360,000 net immigrants & keep letting foreign ownership buy up property. Stop writing about it, you have no credibility left
We need a rent freeze and a drop in immigration.
Anyone see a problem ?
The housing crisis has nothing to do with bringing in 300,000 migrants every year, who were unable to make their homelands good places to live.
How can more funding for a useless, inept, outdated 3rd level of governance help anyone 🤦♂️🤦♂️ You can’t solve a National problem with local government 🤬🤬
Prior to 2022, what was Scumbag and his corrupt and incompetent LNP cronies doing about housing?
They’re letting in 195,000 more immigrants this year. Gotta close that floodgate before we can begin to catch up on the housing shortage we already face. But ABC will never admit that basic fact. Hell, their solution to every problem is more immigrants.
Get rid of airbnbs and tax on more than 1 investment property ... can't do that too many politians are adding to the crisis.
Take away planning approvals from councils. Should be a state responsibility.
$400m funding injection? No even close. If Governments want to promote more money driven American-style immigration and population growth to stimulate an Australian economy then they had better provide the housing. Affordable housing..not just housing for the rich.
1/ Remove single residential zoning in all urban areas, like Auckland (ignore developers, they want greenfield sites). Nightingalehousing is an excellent model & v. popular. Renting should be normalised and tenants protected frommrate rises, longer tenures and allow pets.
the states could stop selling their housing too
Solutions; 1. Stop fractional Reserve Lending 2. Eliminate Salary taxation and replace it with a property tax 3. Only allow Australian Citizens to own Australian property
Going to take more than that. There is also the material supply issues and labour shortages of people to build as well. We quite literally are unable to keep up with demand.
Voters remorse. 😳
