The deed to 3.1 acres of vacant Middleburg Heights-owned property wedged between a future senior housing community and medical buildings has been gifted to the Board of Park Commissioners of the Cleveland Metroparks.

City Council passed an ordinance at its Feb. 28 meeting enabling the mayor to transfer the deed. The 18880 Bagley Road property is adjacent to Big Creek Reservation and sits across from and slightly west of Southwest General Health Center.

“The property will connect into the Lake-to-Lake Trail and also provide an opportunity over the next several years to put a trailhead in off of Bagley Road, which ultimately will create additional arteries that lead into our Metroparks areas.” Middleburg Heights officials had reached out to the park system to discuss “a variety of areas throughout the city,” he said.

“If you currently look at a lot of our trails, they tend to be very linear throughout the community, and the Metroparks has an interest, as we do, in creating these additional connections into our larger park areas,” Castelli added. The new trailhead will provide additional park visibility and entry along the Bagley Road corridor. Castelli noted that the gifted parcel contains “a lot of wetlands.”If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
