Federal Housing Minister Julie Collins has offered to amend the Housing Australia Future Fund legislation to guarantee yearly spending in return for Senate crossbench support.

Under the policy, a $10 billion fund would be established and invested, with the returns used to build social and affordable housing from 2024-2025 – with a spending cap of $500 million per year. "We urge you all to vote in support of the Housing Australia Future Fund, and the tens of thousands of rental homes it will help fund."Greens housing spokesman Max Chandler-Mather says the party is willing to negotiate on a yearly spend between $500 million and $2.5 billion.

"Spending a fixed $500 million amount, only starting in 12 months' time is not a response to the housing crisis, it's a disaster."
