Federal agency says 1.6 million households are currently without accommodation they can afford or is adequate, but hitting target will depend on governments and the economy

Sean Kilpatrick/The Canadian Press

“We believe that everyone in Canada deserves a home that they can afford and that meets their needs. We also believe that we are in the best position to make that happen,” Evan Siddall, the corporation’s president, writes in an opening message in the document. “We are single-minded in striving toward this goal and it will guide our work in the coming years.”An estimated 1.

While the plan has received a mostly warm welcome from anti-homelessness and housing advocates, there are also some concerns that 100,000 new units spread over 10 years won’t be enough to reach the 2030 goal or help those in the greatest need. Over the next year, the federal housing corporation plans to give out some $2.4 billion in loans and funding as part of the strategy and to build 8,300 units, including 3,800 rental units, and repair 15,000 more. And it is also promising to hand out at least $100 million over three years to try new affordable-housing models through three large-scale experiments — either regional or national — and track how well other ideas are performing.

CMHC_ca should disband then vanre

I saw this 20 minutes ago, still laughing.

I guess we can conclude from this is that CMHC is responsible for the current high prices!

This is disturbing! I guess they are going to artificially deflate house prices. I guess now is a good time to consider selling.

Finally fighting foreign capital flight, tax evaders and money laundering while stopping government intervention... oh wait no that’s not your plan

CMHC sets goal of making ‘affordable housing’ for all Canadians by 2030

Huh! Will be nice! I know people - who’ve lived in Toronto for 30 years - who don’t have a completed degree, so - worked ordinary unskilled jobs every year, so - paid taxes - never took welfare Yet - lived in shared accommodation, rooms, basements - all their life, to date

That worked out really well for the US

Canadians need relief now! Not 12 yrs later!

Here in Vancouver our government just told us $2,050 is an affordable price to RENT A 1 BEDROOM!!! Lighters and Jerrycans folks! 🔥🔥🔥

all? likely not

Trudeau renewed his friendship with billionaire Jack Ma, the founder of the Asian e-commerce powerhouse Alibaba, who praised the prime minister for a new policy that will speed the Canadian visa process for skilled workers(CHINESE)

Let me translate this for you: CMHC plan to transfer wealth from haves (current property owners) to have nots (non owners)

I'll save everyone a lot of time and effort... Let prices drop without government interference. There. Done.
