An online petition is asking Durham Region to enact a similar policy on rodenticides to the one passed in Pickering.Organizers have expressed concerns about poisons targeting rodents, since the predators who eat those rodents can also get sick.

“We’ve documented many of these Great Horned Owls succumbing to deaths we suspect are related to rodenticide toxicity,” they wrote.in June 2023. These special types of poison disrupt an animal’s blood-clotting ability, eventually causing hemorrhaging.“Pest management companies claim that rodenticides used in bait stations are effective, necessary and responsible,” wrote organizers.
