Buyers priced out of the housing market are competing fiercely for next-best options, agents say, on another red-hot Sydney Saturday.

A young couple bought a Cammeray house for $2.8 million.First-home buyers outbid seven others to buy a Petersham townhouse for $1,765,000 on Saturday.was originally guided at $1.3 million, but due to a high level of interest, the guide was increased to $1.4 million and then $1.45 million before being removed.

It eventually sold for $1,765,000 to a young family who were renting in the area and had been looking for their first home for some time. The reserve was $1.7 million. The four-bedroom home, which had a guide price of $2.35 million, attracted seven registered bidders – all young couples and families. Five buyers, all inner west families on the hunt for a character property, registered to bid on the five-bedroom home that had a guide of $4.75 million.
