Mohd Aizal Idrus, 28, was sentenced to 20 months for both charges, while his accomplice, Abdul Razak Karim, 31, was sentenced to 11 months for disposing of stolen property, namely a folding bicycle.They were also ordered to serve their sentences starting from the date of their arrest and to be referred to the Malaysian Immigration Department after they had served their sentences.
Both accused pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin after a court interpreter read the charges.For the offence of possessing a stolen television, Mohd Aizal admitted to committing the crime in a rented room in the Bank Islam building on Jalan Haji Karim on April 29, this year, around 2.45pm.
The police investigation found that Mohd Aizal sold the stolen bicycle to an unknown person in the Masjid Mat Salleh area for RM50 at Abdul Razak’s suggestion, and the earnings were shared equally. On April 27, this year, around 11am, the homestay owner, Samsiah Samsul, 32, received a WhatsApp video call from her neighbour, who was assigned as the housekeeping personnel, showing that the door of the homestay in Taman Residensi Prima Ranggu was unlocked.They were suspected to have been taken by the guests who rented the homestay, who checked in at 2am that day.
