Affordable rental housing is achievable, but Vancouver’s new magic bullet, the Moderate Income Rental Housing Pilot Program, misses that mark.

Surely this approach will create a larger, more stable rental stock without sacrificing important neighbourhood considerations.Neighbours have legitimate concernsIn Dan Fumano’s April 5 article about affordable rental housing, Fumano and former city planning commissioner Brandon Yan are looking at the opposition to the proposed development at 1805 Larch St. from the wrong perspective.

The largest portion going down that pipeline is to U.S. refineries in Puget Sound. Good luck turning that off. The next largest portion is refined products from Alberta. Turning that off would hurt Albertans. The prime minister’s policy to open up Canada to anyone who whispers “refugee” — especially from Syria, by the sounds of it — may put him in good standing with the United Nations, but is it in the best interests of Canadians?
