Reading, Sheffield, Newcastle and Bournmouth all feature in the top five hotspots for prospective tenants.
Hannah Rouch, trends expert at Gumtree, says: “Luton, Reading and Sheffield have consistently been in the top three rental hotspots in the UK since the start of the year. The demand peaked in January, with 81 replies to each listing in Sheffield and 78 responses for Luton. Mr Rolande said: “It’s interesting to note that the main beneficiaries of high rental demand are towns and cities away from traditional property hotspots such as London, Manchester and Birmingham. These locations have seen a slight cooling of demand, in favour of outlying locations.
Mr Rolande added: “You’d be surprised how many tenants don’t show up at viewings. Be responsive and arrive on time or even a few minutes early to create a good impression. The findings from Home Buy First and Gumtree come amid recent data revealing issues with supply in the rental market.
