San Antonio Housing Authority News

The board of commissioners of Opportunity Home San Antonio voted Wednesday to fire President and CEO Ed Hinojosa Jr. No reason was given.

The board of commissioners of Opportunity Home San Antonio on Wednesday fired President and CEO Ed Hinojosa Jr., who had worked for the organization formerly known as the San Antonio Housing Authority for two decades. The unanimous vote came after a three-hour executive session. Hinojosa Jr.’s termination was effective immediately and commissioners appointed public affairs officer Michael Reyes as acting president and CEO.

Opportunity Home residents and housing advocates decried the move at the agency’s May 1 board meeting, when agency staff told commissioners that notices had been sent to tenants who owed rent for over a year regardless of the amount. The board had previously directed staff members to recover rent after lifting a moratorium on evictions, but some commissioners said they did not realize tenants owing low amounts would receive notices.
