When Michael Dean decided to rent out his property he did not expect his tenants to keep goats in the residential backyard and create a smell inside the house so bad it caused a visitor to vomit.
"Our organisation prides itself on our trusted reputation earned over 40 years of service," a spokesperson said in a statement.Mr Dean lodged his complaint with Consumer Affairs Victoria earlier this year alleging Ballarat Real Estate mismanaged his property by not conducting proper inspections.Mr Dean said he was tipped off to the poor state of the property by a friend who saw goats tied to the back verandah and an old car in the backyard being used as a skip bin.
Mr Dean said he was studying full-time and working two jobs at that point, and the stress of trying to clean up the house took its toll. He said his agent later pressured him to consider offers close to $100,000 less than the original estimate range when there was a lack of interest during the campaign.Jonathan said he approached agents from other companies who provided comparable sales about $80,000 less than Ballarat Real Estate had provided, while a licensed valuer's retrospective valuation, backdated to the initial listing date, "much lower" than Ballarat Real Estate's estimation.
