Two men have been charged over a major drug bust in north Queensland that police said netted a cannabis crop with a street value of close to $20 million.
Police on Wednesday seized more than 8,000 plants and eight kilograms of dried cannabis from a property at Calen, north of Mackay."If you look at the size of the area we're looking at, it's probably about two basketball courts," he said. Two men, aged 71 and 37, have been charged with producing dangerous drugs and other minor drug offences.Police said the property owner had no knowledge of the illegal crop, grown on four large sites in the mountainous area.
"This is an operation that's been conducted over the last six months, so it's fairly intense, fairly involved," Detective Inspector Duck said. "Whilst people are going to continue in this mould of cultivating, producing cannabis crops, we'll keep doing our job and do what we can to make sure it doesn't get to the community."
