Premier Daniel Andrews placed 3,000 residents in a five-day mandatory lockdown at the weekend as fears mount over a potential explosive outbreak of the coronavirus in densely populated high-rise buildings in Flemington and North Melbourne. The Premier faced criticism for the move as he was accused of taking away personal freedoms as locked down residents were instructed not to leave the premises, with police guarding exit and entry points in the buildings.
A number of the social houses forced into lockdown did not record any cases of the virus before being closed off. Mr Andrews defended his decision, saying “this is not about punishment, this is about protection”. “We cannot have a cohort of people, many of whom – in poor health to start with, we can’t have this virus spread.

Do the people complaining have enough $$$ to pay the hospital bills if they’re infected? A few days of careful restrictions and testing could save lives, hospital visits and a full outbreak. It’s for the greater good.

They are locked up for 5 days and getting paid for it others are locked up for 14 days without pay, just a bunch of ungrateful refugees loving life on welfare.

People are so bloody selfish. I would be happy to try and save someone else's life by going into lockdown. All housing is just a box. All of it would seem like a prison when you can't leave.

I'm sceptical about '5 days' ....every other scenario says 14 days quarantine , so wait for Dan's next announcement.

Prison like conditions? I expect many would know that from having been in prison. But just to clarify... How many prisons have internet, mobile phones, big screen TVs, private bathrooms, comfortable lounge furnishings? Ya get my drift?
