As Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews insists the hard lockdown of nine public housing towers is not a punishment, residents inside say they are struggling to access crucial supplies.
Victorian Police officers and health workers are seen outside a public housing tower along Racecourse Road in Melbourne. On day three of the public housing estate lockdown, single mother Maima, who does not want to be identified by her full name, said she reached breaking point."I am frustrated and angry. I wasn't prepared at all."
"I'm helping out my elderly neighbours. Getting some information to them. Getting some essential stuff like sugar and milk to them. We're sharing [our supplies]. In another case, a mother was urgently seeking medication for her son who has a condition which he has been hospitalised for numerous times in the past year.
"We write down [what they can eat] and go to nearby East African restaurants. We speak to the owners and we ask can they cook what these residents can eat."Mr Ige said he has been helping to co-ordinate the provision of supplies and to provide information for residents who do not speak English.Australian African Association president Nasa Ige says members of the community have stepped in to provide translation and arrange the delivery of meals.
"We got one letter delivered this morning telling us to stay in our units and eventually we would be tested and they've hung one mask on our door," Janine Kelly said.
Its 5 days get over it, maybe the homeland would be better feel free
Dan didn’t think. These people have been poorly prepared for lockdown. Whether it’s because they don’t have a pantry of food or only buy as required is irrelevant. Staples, nappies and formula need to be delivered. You can’t blame the hundreds of kids living in these blocks.
My question is ..... where is Adam Brandt with his collection of notes thrown out of windows and his band of merry greenies supplying food parcels? One minute wonder boy.
Something tells me if they had the option to return to the country they came from the would stay in the tower.
Eat the sausage roll and enjoy,it’s good Australian footy food.
When you read the problems of lack of medication you’d wonder why the people didn’t have normal weekly or monthly supplies
At this point if you're not keeping at least a few weeks worth of supplies in your house then you're not getting any sympathy from me. Especially if you have kids. It's a complete lack of responsibility.
How the hell do you have 8 people in a 2 bedroom place? And how do you share supplies with your neighbours? No wonder it’s rampant in there
Those housing was suppose to be for people who are really struggling but many take advantage of the government system to get cheaper housing and now even have the hide to complain about having roof under head for cheap
They arent Australian dont care
Bill Shit they have food drugs and alcohol!
They should all go home. It's the only solution.
If they’d been given warning what would they have done? Rushed out through the communal elevators and stairways to the nearest supermarket is my guess. Which clearly would achieve the exact opposite of what is needed.
So little empathy when that is what we need. And less police. And more social workers. And some planning competence. No one said, 'well they should have prepared better!' to bushfire victims, or called them whingers when they complained of tinned creamed corn rations...
57 CASES in these TOWERS & it is probably SOME of them NOT prepared to have TESTS in the 1st place!! STOP treating this as a COLD/FLU situation!! It is TIME ALL VICS stop abusing it!!!👎👎👎😷😷
Refugees or complainees?
This is going to be two long years, sorry I mean months, no sorry WEEKS! !!!
Who gives a shit. They should have been more responsible. If the disease spreads the whole country is screwed.
So Aussie food is not even good enough for these entitled s**ts , seriously.
Strange when you think back to when the end of Ramadan was and these cases emerged. Culture has a big part to play in the spread and people’s acceptance of how the wolf has changed.
Victims r us at it again..
Seriously people! We have all made sacrifices. The numbers were going up & up and you all didn’t think to buy nappies, formula & pantry staples? And ppl let their scripts run out?! Take some responsibility for your lack of action & planning
Don't care.
One wonders what the point in the reporting is here. To insinuate that the warning wasn't enough? To say that the process was unfair? To say that we shouldn't isolate communities during a pandemic? To stir the pot? What? I for one am tiring of the pointless negative media lately.
That’s because they have been ripping of the taxpayer, they are finding out that there are up to ten people living in one apartment in some cases.
5 days...really get over it.
dominos need to step up imho !!!! 3000Pizzas
No, they're struggling to get Dominoes Pizza and some might have to wash their butts, instead of using TP. Oddly, plenty of people in other states have already had to do this. Do your part now.
Just be patient. This is a Pandemic.

Resident inside Melbourne's lockdown towers goes without food for 24 hoursResidents of the public housing towers claim they were given little warning of the lock down, leaving them no time to gather groceries. 9News It’s unfair the lockdown was imposed without giving people enough notice to leave and avoid the lockdown. What about the poor elderly in nursing homes that have been in lockdown Umm I may have wuhan virus. But if you don't mind I might just quickly go down to the shops and by some groceries 1st. Maybe that answers the question why it was done the way it was.
