Public housing lockdown: Residents given 4 sausage rolls to last 48 hours

A daughter and her elderly mother trapped in Melbourne's public housing lockdown have broken down in tears, detailing how they have only been given four sausage rolls to eat in more than 48 hours.they have run out of fruit, vegetables, meat and toilet paper – with their pleas for help falling on deaf ears.

The distressed tenants, who reside inside a public housing unit in North Melbourne, said their first delivery from authorities was late this morning, despite entering the lockdown at 4pm on Saturday. Debbie Harrison and her mother Ivy told A Current Affair they have run out of fruit, vegetables, meat and toilet paper – with their pleas for help falling on deaf ears.

The Harrisons are among hundreds of families locked down in the public housing towers across North Melbourne. "Yesterday, I was fine.Ms Harrison's daughter arrived with groceries but was turned around by police.

Dire situation indeed. However, the mindset and action of 'The (sausage rolls) are just going to go in the bin,' Ms Harrison said.' will hardly help their survival.

I appreciate the lockdown occurred with limited notice but why are they relying on others to provide them with food Can’t they order groceries online to be delivered? Surely one of the protected/trained COVID staff would assist in getting the groceries to their apartment?
