John Tory promises to allow more mid-range developments of four units or less on major roads and create a new division if re-elected mayor

Toronto mayoral candidate John Tory announced a five-point plan to address the city’s housing shortage this morning, his first policy promise in his bid for re-election.

The plan would also see the city enact a so-called “use it or lose it” policy for developers sitting on approved but undeveloped land, which would see them pay higher taxes or have their zoning approvals expire after a certain timeframe. House prices in Ontario nearly tripled in the last 10 years, far outpacing income growth, a government-commissioned task force report said last year. The province is also 1.2 million homes – both rental and owned – short of the G7 average.

Sounds like another Beaverton article. Tackle housing? Riiiiiiite. Why not just banish poor, sick, disabled people to a gulag while you collect your Rogers payouts.wrlcome to the feudal state of Lord Tory.

Refugees are growing faster than you build houses. No chance to torontonians.

Just like he promised SmartTrack 8 yrs ago JohnTory

John Tory is repeating old promises that he didn't fulfill before. Dishonest campaign of false promises!!!

typical BS. what’s he going to do that he hadn’t done before?!! elitist clown

Tackle, it how, with another fn...g study?

Build houses, Airbnbs and REITs buys them. His plan won't work.

This political bull manure rhetoric has been going on almost 2 decades. Homes are for living in raising families not for investment speculating. Take the excessive greed from the real-estate game. So many things are regulated in our lives why not home pricing?

Again?

Come on, Charlie Brown! THIS time I won't pull the ball away.

globetoronto John Tory should have tackled this during the years he has already been mayor. Time for change.

Hello! Tory has had 8 years to solve the housing crisis. Does anyone really think he would do much about it in another 4 years? He can’t even house the homeless.

Do not! Do not re-elect this man, Toronto!

Maybe he should think about paving some roads and making traffic move again. Car traffic. Not bike traffic. There is none.

John Tory has been Mayor for eight years already?

They always promise things if they are re-elected. These guys are just professional liars, nothing more.

He's taking people in? He must have a big basement.

So nothing so far…

“John Tory promises to tackle housing shortage if re-elected as Toronto mayor”. Why wait? Why didn’t he do it durring his last term?

don’t trust him anymore 😔 pick new mayor

For the first 10 years, his royal majesty was resting

Maybe I'm getting old and cynical, but why don't politicians work on problems instead of promising to work on them if elected?

what is he waiting for?

What have you done for me lately?

But you haven't since In power. You are done.

“John Tory promises to tackle housing shortage if re-elected as Toronto mayor” Boy, that John Tory is sure good at “promising” things. It IS what he does best.

Why isn’t he doing it now? This has been a problem for some time now

For decades they said 'We will end homelessness if you vote for us', to, 'tackle housing shortage'? 👌🤣🤡🌍

He promised that b4?

JohnTory as usual talk and no action he had two terms to address it and nothing was done instead removing unfortunate people from trinity park and cost $2m

3rd time is the charm, am I right ?

He just thought he'd leave it for his third term? (or is it fourth?)
