Ontario is proposing to remove land from the protected Greenbelt in order to build at least 50,000 new homes, while adding new land to it elsewhere -- contradicting a pledge made last year.
If that proceeds, landowners will be expected to develop housing plans quickly with construction beginning no later than 2025, he said. The aim is to build at least 50,000 homes on those lands in service of the government's target of building 1.5 million homes in 10 years. "These proposals will support our municipal partners' plans for responsible growth and help build at least 50,000 new homes, while leading to an overall expansion of the Greenbelt."
"I want to be clear: We will not in any way entertain any proposals that will move lands in the Greenbelt, or open the Greenbelt lands to any kind of development," he had said.
Right from the start let me say I totally agree we should NOT touch the green belt. I don’t seen anyone coming out with any ideas where to build houses. A lot of criticism but no alternatives.
Infilling is justifiable given that many people have houses scattered throughout it. Take Tapleytown. Why not cluster around the school instead of busing kids in. The greenbelt is not virgin forest. Do your research.
Ford's friends bought the land cheap, and now will make a fortune, now that it is rezoned. Its fraud
Well everyone wants new comers to Canada and all that.. gotta put them somewhere lol. Pick a lane lefties 🤣
Say it “The Ford Government” we all agree FordMustGo FordMustResign
dictator Ford strikes again. Time to decide Ontario whether to toss this Putin style premier DougFordMustResign
The point of the greenbelt is that it’s the best arable land we have in Ontario. As we grow in population and climate change makes food harder to produce, we need this land more and more Adding some other area wont balance the losses here Protect our Greenbelt. Protect farms
Add it to non donor land.
Look up the history and reasons for the greenbelt. This is mischaracterizing most of it. I agree with saving as much as possible, but there's a disconnect between what the feds are doing immigration wise and the housing we currently have.
Ford is doing what his ancestors did to indigenous people… In this case he takes the good, resource rich land from the needed protected green belt and then accepts natural resource poor land in exchange! What a shame and short sightedness. This is wrong on so many levels. 🤬
Out of touch, that's what fordnation is on this matter.
If Canada plans to bring 500k new migrants per year in the next 5y, we will need more houses, appartements, condos, schools, hospitals, etc … simple maths.
Ah yes, the cut and paste Greenbelt. Where you can take land and build on it but then just add Greenbelt land somewhere else and we can still call it the Greenbelt like we never took the other land to begin with. Crafty, no one will ever notice.
This is absolutely disgusting. The GreenBelt IS Protected Land. There should be a Law against building on Protected Lands, oh wait there is. And who signs off on this deal allowing homes to be built on it? It has to pass the House doesn't it? FRAUDFORD Is Trudeaus lapdog.
Doug Ford has Constantly Lied to get Reelected ......He told Ontarians He WOULD NEVER TOUCH THE GREEN BELT ....MORE LIES 😜 FORD NEEDS TO RESIGN
Ford is trash!! Wow. Build homes anywhere. Not there.
He's also had his eyes on the Rouge.
And we can't ALLOW That. Where is he going to get the land to replace it? Nunavut? The land is PROTECTED for a reason Fordnation. Can you sink any LOWER to help your Rich Developer friends? Take land from Indigenous & Mennonite next?
Heartbroken at this, you can’t replace this, he’s destroying our province and it’s so sad
50,000 homes no body can afford.
Wow quite the week fordnation is having. It’s like he is starting a new little country here on his playground
fordnation will throw you out before you cut a single tree. Remember it.
We have plenty of homes currently sitting vacant due to people being unable to afford to live in them.
Good, homes is more important in this day and age. Plan trees later when the ice caps melt and that land becomes livable
Can the OntarioPCParty suck anymore?
No
Probably be 50K homes that won't qualify for insurance. We should start following the money right away.
Affordable housing or more detached million dollar homes?
I think that they should just build one building straight to the moon
Doug Ford: ‘I will never touch the Greenbelt!’ SteveClarkPC: ‘We will always protect the Greenbelt.’ Ford & Clark: ‘We’re handing over 7,400 acres of protected, critical watershed Greenbelt land to our developer donors!’ DictatorDoug DougFordLies
The two most serious concerns in this broken unbalanced world according to a recent UN study. Too many people, too much development. Nature is giving humanity dangerous warning signs, humanity is too ignorant to understand. The restlessness of a suicidal path continues.
We're going to need a lot more than that. It's funny how small they think.
More 4,000+ sq ft homes with 2 or 3 residents no doubt
DougFord now killing greenspace. A mad man is on the loose in onpoli
Sure, b/c the value of the greenbelt is raw acreage (hecterage?), not where the wetlands, watersheds, drinking reservoirs etc actually exist, right? onpoli
No
Canada needs to spread out, it’s just two major cities now, Toronto and Vancouver.
Good! More homes I can buy and flip for a profit.
ford promised developers he'd do this behind closed doors, then when that video went public promised he wouldn't
Very good move. More land needed to build.
'Remove' land ?
This will remove protected green space & then he will do the same for conservation areas & wetlands!
Im sure the animals that live there will happily move somewhere else. What a joke FordFailedOntario FordFailedThePeople
We have lots of land, a housing shortage, and more immigrants coming.
