0:33The boss of British Gas's owner, Centrica, said"there is no excuse" after an investigation found the company sent debt collectors who broke into customers' homes to install prepayment meters.
"These are extremely serious allegations from The Times. We are launching an urgent investigation into British Gas and we won't hesitate to take firm enforcement action," an Ofgem spokesperson said. Centrica, the owner of British Gas, said in a statement that"all warrant activity" had been suspended and that protecting vulnerable customers is an"absolute priority".Prepayment meter controversy
Regarding prepayment meter break-ins on the vulnerable. Chris O'Shea responds with mock shock that should win an Oscar. He may be sorry but only for his shareholders. 'Not my fault its the contractors'. Control of contractors and duty of care is the issue here.
A lot of hysteria on PPM, debate all been negative & one sided. I’ve had PPM 24 years, I can afford gas, no prob, it was here when I first moved in. Wouldnt swap it for DD: I pay for gas in advance and no nasty bills. However these are warrant cases but their tactics are wrong.
I am a lone parent and unpaid full time Carer and am one of the 20,000. My children are now young adults, but we were fitted with a pre-payment meter when they were still in school. Living with a pre-payment meter is problematic on many levels is in minimally use.
