"People have got very short memories when it comes to this sort of thing," said Garry Egger, who "lost everything" when his mother’s home fell into the sea in huge surf in 1978.
Mr Egger, now of Fairlight, unsuccessfully sued Gosford Council over rocks that had been placed in front of a neighbouring property, that he argued contributed to the destruction of his mother’s home. The 1.4-kilometre wall would be buried under the sand and could "bend and absorb the energy of the waves", Mr Chestnut said.
After another severe storm lashed the strip in 2016, a group of Ocean View Drive residents worked up their own plans for a smaller sea wall, which were reportedly rejected by a coastal panel that had jurisdiction over the matter.Karen Coleman, a litigation lawyer with King & Wood Mallesons, has represented the Wamberal land owners in multiple disputes.
Thank you mother nature 👍🏽
Well the owners wanted to be close to the sea and build on sand. What could possibly go wrong.
FrancesWilmore Derrrrrr. Why are people building on, and allowed to build on sand dunes? Fishing shacks are one thing, mansions like these another!
Great views.
Greed over common sense.
I would have thought building so close to the water's edge would have been rejected.
Australia sinking under the weight of property speculation. How dumb. Time to build a productive economy with real jobs and end the flat earth obsession with mal and unproductive capital allocation to politicians and their rent seekers
TimothyJ_23 See the Central Coast’s local news reporting. NB: It’s happened back in 1978 and the council are and have been trying to stop this.
Bit late now to say they should never been built its called council greed poor engineering by all parties
Is it true, that the council opposed the original development, the developer then went ahead with court action & had the council over ridden? If so no sympathy for the owners. Tell them to take the Developer to court.
unlucky
And on a good day you can see where those SE winds are targeting.
stop blaming the council. In Australia people pay a premium to live by the shore.....in Vietnam no one wants to touch properties by the beach. Theres a reason why people! Think before you build by the sea.
the rich losing their homes? is there anywhere i can donate to help them?
Fools for building so close to the OCEAN Nature will always win,
More money then sense
Another example of environmentalism gone crazy. The same issue applies to all waterfront properties. Environmental factors now the ONLY driver of decisions instead of one balanced input. Councils still charge massive rates for waterfront properties. This stupidity must change
From what I’ve seen on tv, neither am I. They’re built on sand ffs.
Do any Rupert Murdoch bum lickers or Liberal party fundraisers live on that stretch?
This is only the beginning of catastrophic beach erosion arising from the increasing effects of climate change (well, at least for those who believe in it).
“I put sandbags in and the council threatened to sue me for using the wrong fabric on the sandbag,” he said.
Councils have a lot answer for. They’ll argue to the Land and Environment Court and waste rate payers’ money over a carport but they’ll let stuff like this happen. It’s a disgrace.

Beach erosion on NSW coast leaves residents on edgeResidents living along the NSW coast are on edge after days of extreme surf have caused significant erosion leaving homes exposed to the elements. It’s the fault of the Greens for banning backburning. Shouldn’t you expect that if you live right on the beach? If you build a house on a cliff right at the oceans edge, what do you expect? The ocean naturally eroded cliffs every day, it doesn’t care if you put your house there 🤦🏻♀️
